Samsung appears to be finally shutting down its LCD panel business.
Initially, Samsung Display was going to do this at the end of 2020 due to the shift in emphasis to AMO LED and increased competition from Chinese manufacturers. But with the COVID-19 pandemic kicking in, demand for laptop LCD screens skyrocketed, and Samsung decided to continue production.
After the company was going to close the business throughout 2021 (samsung lcd business), but even here the plans changed. And now it is reported that Samsung has finally made up its mind, and the last factory will stop producing LCD panels in June. That is almost two years later than originally planned. Moreover, this time around, Samsung's plans have changed in the opposite direction: the company planned to close the business at the end of 2022.
