Infineon Technologies has introduced a new IGBT power module specified to the requirements of electric vehicle traction inverters in the 80kW to 100kW power class: the HybridPACK DC6i. This six-pack module is optimised to give an excellent fit of system cost and performance to hybrid and small battery electric vehicles. It combines the company's EDT2 IGBTs with package technologies for compactness, excellent thermal management at decreased material cost, and simple installation.
The new module offers the same compact footprint (7.2cm x 14cm) as the HybridPACK1 – 25% smaller than the HybridPACK Drive – but the available output power is more than 50% higher. While the HybridPACK1 uses the company's IGBT3 technology, the inverter is equipped with the latest EDT2 IGBTs. Moreover, the new module has six screw connectors to the DC-link capacitor in comparison to two in the HybridPACK1 family. This allows a low-inductive design with a stray inductance of 15nH. Finally, the patented direct-cooling wave baseplate gives an outstanding and cost-effective heat dissipation with a thermal resistance from the IGBT chip junction to the fluid of 0.17K/W.
