The Realtek RTL8111F-CG Gigabit Ethernet controller combines a three-speed media access controller (MAC) compliant with the IEEE 802.3 standard with a three-speed Ethernet transceiver, PCI Express bus controller and embedded memory.
RTL8111F adopts the most advanced DSP technology and mixed-mode signal technology, and provides high-speed transmission through CAT 5 UTP cable or CAT 3 UTP (10Mbps only) cable. Realize functions such as cross detection and automatic correction, polarity correction, adaptive equalization, crosstalk cancellation, echo cancellation, timing recovery, and error correction to provide robust transmission and reception capabilities at high speeds.
RTL8111F supports PCI Express 1.1 bus interface for host communication with power management, and complies with the IEEE 802.3u specification for 10/100Mbps Ethernet and the IEEE 802.3ab specification for 1000Mbps Ethernet. It also supports automatic detection of auxiliary power, and will automatically configure the relevant bits of the PCI power management register in the PCI configuration space.
RTL8111F uses embedded one-time programmable (OTP) memory to replace external EEPROM (93C46/93C56/93C66). Supports advanced configuration power management interface (ACPI)-the power management of modern operating systems capable of operating system-oriented power management (OSPM), so as to achieve maximum availability and efficient power management is possible.
PCI MSI (Message Signal Interrupt) and MSI-X are also supported. In addition to ACPI functions, ACPI and APM (Advanced Power Management) environments also support remote wake-up (including AMD Magic Packet and Microsoft wake-up frame). In order to support WOL from a deep power-off state (for example, D3cold, that is, the main power is off and only the auxiliary power is present), the auxiliary power must be able to provide the required power for the RTL8111F.
RTL8111F supports protocol uninstallation. It offloads some of the most common protocols to the NIC hardware to prevent false wakeups and further reduce power consumption. RTL8111F can uninstall ARP (IPv4) and NS (IPv6) protocols in D3 power saving state.
RTL8111F supports ECMA (European Computer Manufacturers Association) sleep host agent standard. The standard stipulates that the network connection and status should be maintained through an agent to extend the sleep time of high-performance hosts. It handles some network tasks on behalf of the host and allows the host to stay in sleep mode for a long time. The required and optional actions of the operating agent include generating response packets, ignoring packets, and waking up the host. RTL8111F supports IEEE 802.3az-2010, also known as Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE). IEEE 802.3az-2010 works with the IEEE 802.3 media access control (MAC) sublayer to support operation in low-power idle mode. When Ethernet is in low link utilization, EEE allows the systems on both sides of the link to save power.
RTL8111F is fully compliant with Microsoft NDIS5, NDIS6 (IPv4, IPv6, TCP, UDP) check and segmentation task offloading (large sending and large sending) functions, and supports IEEE 802 IP layer 2 priority encoding and IEEE 802.1Q virtual bridged LAN ( VLAN). The above features help reduce CPU utilization, especially performance when running on a web server.
RTL8111F supports Receive Side Extensions (RSS) to hash incoming TCP connections and load balance the received data processing on multiple CPUs. RSS increases the number of transactions per second and the number of connections per second, thereby increasing network throughput. The device also has interconnect PCI Express technology. PCI-Express is a high-bandwidth, low-pin-count, serial, and interconnection technology. Compared with traditional PCI, it has a significant improvement in performance, while maintaining the same software as the existing PCI infrastructure compatibility.
