Molex, a provider of connectivity and electronic solutions, announced the acquisition of Fiberguide Industries, a manufacturer of customized fiber optic solutions based in Caldwell, Idaho. Fiberguide will join Molex's Polymicro business, a professional optical fiber and fluid product provider based in Phoenix, specifically tailored for medical, industrial and data communication applications.
"Today, Molex is setting a new standard of excellence in the industry and realizing our vision of becoming a leading provider of specialty optical fiber products." said Jim Clarkin, General Manager of Polymicro. "Our comprehensive capabilities provide global customers with complete products and solutions to meet the emerging demand for innovative laser-based optical systems."

As a global leader in fiber optic arrays and cable assemblies, Fiberguide is in a unique position to help Molex meet the demanding needs of medical applications, including high-power laser surgery, DNA sequencing, and flow cytometry. Both Molex and Fiberguide have extensive expertise in optical fibers, analytical probes, and fully packaged components to meet the growing demand for minimally invasive medical procedures. In addition, the combination of complementary design capabilities provides customer-centric solutions for industrial monitoring and sensing, and data communication applications that require reliable performance in extremely harsh environments.

"Fiberguide has contributed more than 40 years of technological innovation to Molex." said Dr. Devinder Saini, Vice President of Fiberguide Technology. "We have a similar culture and focus on providing the most powerful vertically integrated fiber optic solutions."

In addition to taking full advantage of enhanced design capabilities, smart digital supply chains and global manufacturing footprints, Molex will also establish optical fiber development centers of excellence in Phoenix and Caldwell to support new business opportunities from concept to production.

Polymicro was acquired by Molex in 2007. Today, Molex designs, develops and provides Polymicro specialty optical fiber products and solutions for the medical, industrial and data communications industries.
