Flex Power Modules announced the launch of a half-brick packaged digital DC/DC converter BMR685 for RF power amplifiers, which can provide up to 1300W of continuous output power.
With the transition of telecom infrastructure to 5G, the power consumption of RF power amplifiers has become larger and larger, and RF power amplifier designers are shifting from LDMOS to gallium nitride transistors. In general, the industry is putting forward the demand for high-efficiency DC/DC converters and requiring them to provide the required power in a smaller package. The power handling capability of BMR685 makes it very suitable for these high-power RF power amplifier applications, and can meet the needs of both LDMOS and GaN.
This new converter can provide up to 97.2% high efficiency at full load. Its output voltage range is 25V to 55V, and can provide up to 26A of output current. Its input voltage range is 36V to 75V, and the isolation between input and output is 2250V.
The BMR685 contains digital functions that can be accessed through the PMBus interface, so that temperature, voltage and current can be easily monitored, as well as simple adjustments to the output voltage. It is supported by the Flex Power Designer software tool.
The converter's operating temperature range is -40°C to +125°C, and can provide 100% power at a base plate temperature of 100°C. It includes comprehensive over-voltage, over-temperature and short-circuit protection mechanisms, so it can achieve a long working life, and its mean time between failures (MTBF) exceeds 4970 hours.
David Xie, Director of R&D and Product Management of Flextronics Power Modules, said: “RF power amplifier applications are demanding more and more power without compromising efficiency and functionality. The BMR685 meets all these requirements and has a small size design, so it can be easily Integrate it into the power amplifier design."
BMR685 is supplied in an industry-standard half-brick form, with a size of 61.0mm×57.9mm×12.7mm (2.4in×2.28in×0.5in), and it complies with safety requirements such as IEC/EN/UL 62368-1.
The complete RF power amplifier product portfolio of Flextronics power modules and the latest BMR685 will be showcased at the Munich Shanghai Electronics Show from April 14th to 16th, 2021.
