The previous record - 55.5 billion US dollars - was set in 2020. This data comes from SEMI, a global industry association for electronics manufacturers and the supply chain of materials and components.
The segment of materials related to the manufacture of directly semiconductor products amounted to $40.4 billion, and the segment of materials related to their packaging - $23.9 billion. Growth in these segments was 15.5% and 16.5%, respectively.
Taiwan remains the world's largest consumer of semiconductor materials for the 12th consecutive year. In 2021, an indicator of 14.7 billion US dollars was recorded here, which is 15.7% higher than in 2020. Mainland China in 2021 showed the largest growth compared to the previous year - 21.9%, in absolute terms equal to 11.9 billion dollars, coming in second place. Third place with 10.6 billion dollars was retained by South Korea, which showed an increase of 15.9%. Japan accounts for $8.8 billion, and growth here is 11.5%. North America's figures are $6.0 billion and 8.5, Europe - $4.4 billion and 21.9%.
