Specialists of the analytical company IC Insights have prepared a forecast related to the microchip market. According to the forecast, global shipments of microcircuits this year will reach 427.7 billion units, an increase of 9.2% compared to last year. This figure is close to the annual average of 9.4% carried out in the long-term forecast. Chip shipments rose 22% last year from 2020 levels, the biggest since the 2010 boom.
To gauge the growth of the industry, this comparison suggests that almost five times as many chips will be shipped this year than in 2000, and nearly 44 times as many as shipped in 1980. A visual representation is given by a diagram published by IC Insights.
Analysts note that throughout history, the volume of deliveries from year to year decreased only five times: in 1985, 2001, 2009, 2012 and 2019. And a supply cut has never been seen two years in a row.
