Ferrets are known for their small size, resourcefulness, and intelligence. They can solve problems by fitting into tight spaces and performing tasks that humans may find challenging. In the field of electronics, the RF Solutions FERRET receiver shares these qualities, as it enables smart wireless switching in various electrical installations.
Similar to the animal, the FERRET receiver is compact, measuring only W:37mm x H:25mm x L:96mm. Its small size allows it to fit into tight crawlspaces and most electrical enclosures. The receiver features a single relay changeover contact rated at 1kW (5A@230Vac). This allows installers to incorporate remote control switching into installations such as lighting, fans, or motors without the need for large or expensive relays. RF Solutions introduced the FERRET in 2021 as a smart switching solution for various applications. As of March 2024, the FERRET has become even smarter.
The module now comes in two versions: the standard version, which includes two screw fixing holes. These holes enable installers to easily secure the module onto surfaces or in junction boxes (such as a WISKA box). Each fixing hole is located on a snappable part of the PCB, allowing installers to break off either hole, further saving space. The new industrial FERRET version is a DIN rail receiver designed for industrial electricians and engineers. It can be clipped onto a DIN rail inside more robust enclosures commonly found in industrial settings.
Both versions of the FERRET receiver come with a wire antenna. However, they now also feature a UFL antenna connection, which allows installers to choose and connect a more suitable antenna for their specific application. In recent years, screwless terminals have become popular in the electronics industry. Both FERRET modules follow this trend, saving installers up to 50% more time when wiring their installations.
Different electrical installations have different requirements, which is why the FERRET is supplied as standard with an extra-low voltage of 6-16Vdc. However, by using an RF Solutions MOJO power transformer, it can also switch 230Vac MAINS installations. The receiver supports a maximum of 30 pairings and can be operated from any of the RF Solutions 868MHz controls, with a range of up to 1 kilometer. These versatile features provide installers with flexibility when implementing wireless switching applications.
The goal of smart solutions is to simplify installations, and the FERRET achieves this by offering a straightforward wireless switching relay that can be used with various devices and RF Solutions smart radio switches.
